On April 14, 2025, a direct shipping route from Zhuhai, China, to Brazil was officially launched. This route connects Zhuhai’s Gaolan Port with Santana Port in Amapá and Salvador Port in Bahia, facilitating more efficient trade.

Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao stated that this maritime line could reduce shipping times by up to 30 days and lower logistics costs by over 30%. He emphasized the importance of strong connectivity for international trade and highlighted the significance of the direct links through Santana and Salvador ports for enhancing bilateral trade relations.

Victor Queiroz, General Manager of ApexBrasil‘s Asia-Pacific office, noted the route’s potential to expand Brazilian exports in southern China, and indicated plans to organize trade meetings tailored to the Chinese market to help importers better understand Brazilian products.

The Brazilian government is also encouraging Chinese investment to modernize port facilities, warehouses, and logistics networks, aiming to improve overall port capacities and services.

‘This new shipping route is particularly relevant for Macau, as it reinforces the region’s role as a trade hub within the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries). Macau’s strategic location can facilitate increased collaboration between Brazil and other Portuguese-speaking nations’, ApexBrasil noted.
