Sands China invites 5 Rua das Estalagens shops for team member food fest

Sands China continues its commitment to supporting local SMEs by inviting five shops from Rua das Estalagens to a food fest at The Venetian Macao’s back-of-house. The event, held in March, offered a promotional platform for small businesses, encouraging team members to explore and support the historic district.

Sands China hosted a food fest for its team members on various days between March 18 and March 28 at the back-of-house dining room of The Venetian Macao, featuring signature foods and products from five restaurants, cafes and bakeries from the Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme for Rua das Estalagens, one of the company’s community revitalisation initiatives. Nearly 7,000 Sands China team members visited the food fest’s five culinary roadshows, supporting local businesses while experiencing the vibrant flavours of the region.

Sands China’s Community Revitalisation Series – Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme for Rua das Estalagens has been instrumental in revitalizing the historic district.

Launched in April 2024, the initiative received over 120 applications, ultimately selecting seven businesses to establish themselves in the area.  Since then, six of these businesses have commenced operations, contributing to the economic and cultural revival of Rua das Estalagens.

As part of its ongoing support, Sands China hosted a food fest between March 18 and March 28 in the back-of-house dining area at The Venetian Macao, featuring five shops from the entrepreneurship programme.

Nearly 7,000 team members participated in the food fest and experienced diverse culinary creations, encouraging them to visit Rua das Estalagens with their families.

Participating businesses included Cafe Fantart, which presented its original and curry beef egg tarts, and Olálá, known for its bacalhau balls and spicy fish patty. Catfee delighted attendees with Ethiopia natural ice drip coffee, while Panpan offered a fusion-style mini pain au chocolat. Voyage Thai Kitchen introduced bottled Thai milk tea alongside traditional mango sticky rice.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., emphasized the company’s dedication to empowering local entrepreneurs and supporting sustainable economic growth.

He highlighted Sands China’s efforts in integrating business elements into the district, aligning with the Macau SAR government’s SME support policies.

He also noted that promotional initiatives like the food fest and the Sands China Macao International 10K, which distributed brand coupons to participants, help SMEs gain broader exposure and expand their customer base.

Beyond the entrepreneurship programme, Sands China collaborated with the Macau Artist Society to publish “In Search of Its Roots – An Illustrated History of Rua das Estalagens.” This book documents the district’s rich history, capturing personal stories and historical insights through narratives, images, and illustrations.

The publication serves as an educational resource, preserving the cultural heritage of Rua das Estalagens for both residents and visitors.

The Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme for Rua das Estalagens is an extension of Sands China’s broader SME initiatives, including the F.I.T. programme and the Sands Resorts Incubation Centre.

Launched in 2017, the F.I.T. programme provides Financial Support, Invitational Matching, and Training and Development to local suppliers. In 2023, Sands China expanded this initiative with the Sands Resorts Incubation Centre, designed to nurture innovative local enterprises.

These programmes are part of Sands China’s Local Supplier Support Programme, which was established in 2015 in collaboration with the Macao Chamber of Commerce.

Sands China frequently organizes roadshows to provide local SMEs with direct business opportunities, allowing team members to discover and support emerging brands.
