Angola: Biden visit to country ‘postponed’ due to impact of hurricanes in US

US President Joe Biden has postponed a planned visit to Angola, which was scheduled for next week, the White House has announced, justifying the move with the need for him to oversee the response to the likely impacts of hurricanes affecting several parts of the US.

“Given the projected path and strength of Hurricane Milton, President Biden is postponing his trip to Germany and Angola to oversee preparations for and response to Hurricane Milton, in addition to the ongoing response to the impacts of Hurricane Helene,” said a statement from the president’s office.

The statement, signed by the White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, does not talk of cancellation but rather of a “postponement” but without giving any further details.

Biden’s visit to Angola was scheduled to take place next week, from 13 to 15 October, while the visit to Germany was scheduled for 10 to 12 October.
