The preliminary data shared by the MGTO director indicates that about 9.9 million visitors were mainland Chinese tourists, bringing this segment to 81% of the pre-pandemic level for the same period. Visitors from Hong Kong have recovered to 97.1% of 2019 levels, while the number of tourists from Taiwan (324,000) has recovered at a slower pace, reaching 73.4% of pre-COVID levels.
The number of visitors from overseas—a major focus of the SAR’s tourism authorities in recent months—reached 978,000, with a daily average of over 6,400 visitors to Macau. This represents a year-on-year increase of 1.75 times, bringing the figure to almost 67% of the same period in 2019.
