Initiated in 2007, Earth Hour serves as a global platform to increase awareness of climate change by encouraging eco-conscious individuals, communities, households and businesses around the world to turn off their lights for one hour.
Sands China has furthermore been extending its participation beyond this annual event by observing Earth Hour each month since 2013.
On the first Tuesday of every month, Sands®Macao; The Venetian® Macao; The Plaza® Macao featuring Four Seasons; The Parisian Macao; and The Londoner® Macao (comprising The Londoner Hotel, Londoner Court, St. Regis, Conrad, and Sheraton) turn off exterior lights, signage, and marquees for one hour, amplifying the positive environmental impact of the energy-saving movement.
“Besides reducing energy consumption, we aim to inspire others to join us in this iconic global campaign, and to take action against the climate crisis and its threat to nature. We extend our sincere gratitude to our team members, guests, and hotel partners for their dedicated support and participation in this year’s event,” said Sean McCreery, Executive Vice President of Operations for Sands China Ltd.
Sands China’s ongoing sustainability efforts have yielded impressive results. Since 2019, the company has saved a total of 38 million kWh of energy.
Sands China’s environmental sustainability efforts are part of the Sands ECO360 global sustainability strategy of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp. Sands ECO360 is designed to utilise measures like energy saving, resource recycling, conservation and community engagement in order to help minimise the company’s environmental impact and lead the way in sustainable building development and resort operations.
