North Korea’s leader travels to Russia for meeting with Putin

The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, will be travelling to Russia this Monday for a meeting with Vladimir Putin. The information is being reported by Reuters, which quotes a South Korean television station.

According to an unidentified government source, the YTN news channel reports that the leader of North Korea is travelling in an armoured train to meet the Russian president in Vladivostok, a city on the east coast of Russia, where the Eastern Economic Forum is taking place.

If the trip to Russia is confirmed, it will be Kim Jong-un’s first trip abroad in four years. The last time the North Korean leader travelled, recalls Reuters, was in 2019, precisely to Vladivostok, where he met with Putin after negotiations on North Korea’s nuclear disarmament with former US President Donald Trump failed.

The New York Times had already reported that Kim Jong-un would meet Putin in Russia in September, but the Kremlin refused this weekend to confirm the meeting.
