A notice posted on the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website states: “At the invitation of the government of the Republic of India, Premier of the State Council Li Qiang will participate in the 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi , in India, on September 9th and 10th”.
Relations between China and India have deteriorated in recent years due to the border dispute that in 2020 resulted in a violent clash between troops from the two countries. The clashes resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers.
The two countries also have trade disputes. Beijing is still suspicious of the growing strategic ties between India and the United States.
India recently overtook China as the world’s most populous nation and the two countries are rivals in technology, space exploration and global trade.
