Genetic tests confirm Yevgeny Prigozhin’s death in plane crash

The death of the head of the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose plane crashed on Wednesday in Russia, has been confirmed by genetic tests, announced today the Russian Investigation Committee.

At the end of the “molecular genetic expertise” it was found that the identities of the 10 victims, whose bodies were found after the crash, “correspond to the list” of passengers and crew on the plane, such as Prigozhin, indicated, in a statement, the Committee, the body responsible by major investigations in Russia.

Without adding further details, the Committee indicated that among the victims was Prigozhin.

Investigators have not commented on possible causes of the plane crash.

The private jet carrying Prigozhin and his guard crashed late Wednesday afternoon in the Tver region, northwest of Moscow, immediately raising suspicions of an assassination orchestrated by Russian power.

In Washington, Paris, Berlin or Kiev, senior officials hinted that their suspicions lay squarely with the Kremlin.

For its part, the Kremlin has denied ordering Prigozhin’s assassination, calling these allegations “speculation”.
