England coach is a possibility for the men’s team

The coach of the England women's national team is being appointed to the technical command of the men's national team. Sarina Wiegman has led England to the final of the women's World Cup for now and the English football federation is studying the possibility of the coach replacing Gareth Southgate in the men's team.

The news was advanced by ESPN who reported that the English football federation and Mark Bullingham, CEO of the Football Association of England (FA), confirmed this possibility.

“Sarina is doing a brilliant job in the women’s national team. I don’t like it when they say we should have the ‘right man’ for a job, I prefer it to be the ‘right person’. Do I think Sarina could have any role in football? I think yes. I am very happy with the work she has been doing and I hope she stays with us for a long time”, he said, speaking to the Daily Express.

Sarina Wiegman, a 53-year-old Dutchwoman, would be, if this change in role at the English federation is confirmed, the first woman to coach a men’s team. It should be remembered that, currently, Gareth Southgate is the current England coach.
