The fires broke out on Tuesday, endangering homes, businesses and utilities, as well as more than 35,000 people on the island of Maui, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency said in a statement issued.
The fires burned more than 800 hectares of land, the state agency said.
“High winds and gusts and dry conditions placed much of Hawaii under a red alert, which ended on Wednesday, and more fires were raging across the Big Island and Maui.”
