More than four million people from Ukraine have applied for temporary protection in the EU until June

More than four million people have asked the European Union (EU) for temporary protection as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine between February 24, 2022 and June 30 of this year, Eurostat announced today.

According to the European statistical service, Germany (1,133,420 people, i.e. 28% of the total), Poland (977,740, 24%) and the Czech Republic (349,140, 9%) hosted the highest number of beneficiaries of the temporary protection conferred by the 27.

A total of 4,065,615 citizens who do not belong to one of the EU countries requested temporary protection as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which caused the largest migratory flow within the European continent since the Second World War, under a decision of March of the last year that makes it possible while the war rages in the Ukrainian territory.

As of June 30, 2023, Portugal had received 55,425 people.
