Tests for the first metro connection between Macau and Taipa to start in August

Macau will start tests for its first light rail connection between Macau and Taipa in August, revealed the Directorate of Public Works Services (DSOP).

According to the DSOP, from mid-August 2023, work will begin on the general assessment of compositions and systems of the Taipa Light Rail Line, as well as the respective experimental operation, among others.

The connection between the respective Macau and Taipa lines via the Sai Van Bridge is scheduled for the end of this year.

The works on the Barra Station on the Macau side, located in the area of Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van, next to the Barra bus terminal and adjacent to the Barra Modal Transport Center, were completed in March this year.

The contract was awarded in 2018 for 1.178 billion patacas. It should have been completed 1,238 working days, but, for meteorological reasons and due to the impact of the pandemic, the project was delayed by 74 days.

In March of this year, work was also concluded on the installation of the Light Rail circulation system along the lower deck of the Sai Van Bridge, followed by tests and trials of the carriages, which are divided into three phases, the first of which covers the Barra Station and the lower deck of the Sai Van Bridge, a second stage to Oceano Station and a third stage along the entire length of the line.

According to the public works, after the calibration work, the designation “Estação da Barra” will be added to the monitors and diffusion systems of trains and stations on the Taipa Light Rail Line, as well as the initial designation of “Estação do Barra” to be changed. Flor de Lótus Border Post” to “Lotus Flower Station”.

‘Due to the carrying out of the calibration work, on the 11th of August the designation “Estação da Barra” will be added to the monitors and in the respective installations of the compositions and stations of the Taipa Light Rail Line and the designation of “Estação da Barra” will also be changed. from Flor de Lótus Border Post” to “Flor de Lótus Station”,’ indicated the DSOP.

‘Moreover, the indication signs along the route of the Taipa Line need time to be replaced, foreseeing that they will be replaced, gradually, before the end of November of the current year and passengers are requested to understand inconvenience eventually caused.’
