Last photo of father and son before boarding the Titan submarine

Embraced with orange vests, protective helmets and smile on their faces with the Atlantic Ocean in the background. That was the portrait of the last image released of Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood, 58, and his son Suleman, 19, before they boarded the submersible Titan, on the tourist trip in which they and three others died.

In an interview with the American newspaper The New York Times, Christine, a widow and mother, revealed details of the trip with the aim of knowing the wreckage of the Titanic that ended in an implosion.

She said she believed they died listening to their favorite songs — shared via Bluetooth in the submersible — in anticipation of seeing bioluminescent creatures at the bottom of the sea. “He [her husband] was like a vibrating child,” she described her. “It was a good morning.”

Christine was with her on the trip, but remained on the support ship with Alina, the couple’s daughter, on June 18 – Father’s Day, celebrated on the third weekend of June in countries like the USA and Canada.

On board, Suleman took a Rubik’s Cube, while his father had a Nikon camera, intending to capture images of the ocean floor through the Titan’s window. During the submersible’s descent, searchlights and interior lights would be dimmed to save battery life for the big moment—the view of the Titanic. The only glow would come from computer screens and lighted pens that passengers carried.
