Moscow says it has ‘stopped’ assassination attempt on Crimean chief

The Russian security service FSB claims to have prevented an assassination attempt on the governor of the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Moscow, in 2014. hired and trained by the Ukrainian secret to place a bomb in the car of Sergei Aksyonov.

“An assassination attempt organized by the Ukrainian special services against the head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, was stopped,” the FSB announced.

The Russian security service claims that the detained suspect is “a Russian citizen, born in 1988, who had been recruited by the security service of Ukraine (SBU)”. According to information released by Moscow, the suspect was detained while “removing the explosive from its hiding place”.
