Putin calls Kakhovka dam explosion a ‘barbaric act’

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, classified this Wednesday as a “barbaric act” the explosion that occurred on Tuesday at the Kakhovka dam, in southern Ukraine, during a telephone conversation with his counterpart from Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In conversation with the Turkish leader, Putin denounced that the alleged attack caused “a major ecological and humanitarian catastrophe” in the annexed Ukrainian region of Kherson, according to the Kremlin (Russian Presidency) in a statement.

Russia proclaimed, on September 30, 2022, the annexation of the Ukrainian regions of Kherson, Zaporijia, Donetsk and Lugansk.

The Russian head of state also underlined that, with the support of Western allies, Kiev “continues to bet dangerously on the escalation of military actions”.
