Russia condemned in Strasbourg for moral damages against Alexei Navalny

The European Court of Human Rights this Tuesday condemned Russia to pay 40 thousand euros to Alexei Navalny for the “lack of an effective investigation” into the poisoning case of that opponent in 2020.

The judges who decided on the payment of 40,000 euros condemned Vladimir Putin’s regime for “moral damage” that affected Navalny.

Russia was excluded from the European Court of Human Rights in September last year following the invasion of Ukraine, but the court could still be called upon to rule on Moscow for acts committed before 2022.

The Court, the legal authority of the 46 member states of the Council of Europe, applies the European Convention on Human Rights.
