After all, Manuel Ugarte’s destiny may not be Chelsea, business got complicated in the last hours of last night, and the London club could retreat. All this because PSG entered the race again, and in an almost desperate attempt to secure the player, they presented a new proposal with even better conditions for the Uruguayan player. These are values that Chelsea are not willing to follow and, therefore, may abandon the race for the leonine midfielder.
During yesterday afternoon, the English and French press advanced that Chelsea was preparing a contract valid for eight years for Ugarte, in a deal that, in addition to 60+5 million euros, may involve the purchase of shares in SAD leonina.
This long-term contract would aim to circumvent UEFA’s Financial Fair Play issues, similar to what was done in the deal of Enzo Fernández from Benfica to the Blues, thus spreading the transfer costs over more years. In addition, the British newspaper “Mirror” and also the French “L”Equipe” advanced that Chelsea was interested in making a minority investment in Sporting’s SAD. The English publication says that it is a possibility that could alert the authorities that regulate European football, since, despite the rules only preventing club owners from holding shares in clubs in the same country, this situation could raise questions in terms of participation in European competitions.
