Golden Week: bus services reinforced to cope with increase in demand

TDM Rádio Macau

Hong Kong and Macau authorities will increase overtime work quotas for cross-border bus operators between Hong Kong and Macau.

The Transport Bureau has coordinated with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge border crossing bus companies to increase the number of vehicles in operation and their frequencies according to the passenger flow situation and will give guidance to the public bus operators to improve the bus waiting environment at the border crossings to maintain the order of tourists in the queues.

As in previous years, the queueing area of the terminal on the east side of the Border Gate checkpoint will be extended, and road restrictions will be implemented. From Saturday, April 29 to May 3, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Guangdong and Macau vehicles with double license plates will be prohibited from turning right from the entrance lanes of the Border Gate checkpoint.

At the same time, a detour will be implemented in the passenger pick-up and drop-off area at the Macau side of the Hengqin checkpoint to facilitate the flow of tourists.

From April 29 to May 3, the passenger pick-up and drop-off area around the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Macau checkpoint will be adjusted to allow the parking of public reservation buses and the temporary picking-up and dropping-off of passengers by the vehicles of gaming operators.

To decongest and divert tourists, more than 60 buses will be prepared for the operation of routes 101X and 102X during this period, while the vehicles of the gaming operators will provide direct transport service.

The Transport Bureau is calling on the gaming operators to prepare vehicles in sufficient numbers during the same period to respond to the sudden growth in the number of visitors at border crossings.

As for buses, the two public transport companies will increase their frequencies to meet passenger demand during the holidays.

To decongest and divert tourists, between this Saturday, April 29, and May 3, seasonal bus route No. 3BX will enter service and the frequencies of some special routes will be increased.

In addition, the routes of several bus routes that pass through the central area of the city will have adjusted stops and temporary traffic measures will be implemented on several roads in the area, in conjunction with the installation of temporary stops.

In Taipa, in response to the increased flow of people around Rua do Cunha, temporary traffic measures will also be taken for buses, namely, from Saturday until May 1, routes number 22, 30, 33, 34, after passing through the Rotunda Ouvidor Arriaga, will change routes and pass through Avenida Olímpica to follow their original routes.

As for the land border crossings and busy roads in the central area, the Transport Bureau and the Public Security Police will coordinate with the two bus companies, the gaming operators and the management companies for an adjustment to the bus stop frequencies and locations or the implementation of temporary circulation restrictions.

In addition, the Transport Bureau has coordinated with the two bus operators to prepare trailers at the Green Island Terminal, the Macau Tower and the Pac On bus parking area to deal with unforeseen situations.

Between April 29 and May 3, the Transport Bureau will deploy traffic attendants to tourist areas and major bus stops to assist pedestrians and drivers.
