“Ukraine’s future lies in NATO”

“Ukraine’s future lies in the Euro-Atlantic family. The future of Ukraine is in NATO”. The statements are from the Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance and were delivered this Thursday in Kiev. It is the first time Jens Stoltenberg has been in the Ukrainian capital since the Russian invasion began on 24 February last year.

The top Atlantic Alliance official said at a press conference alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said a plan for Kiev’s membership will be discussed at the NATO summit in July in Vilnius, Lithuania. “The issue of membership” will be “at the top of the agenda”, the organisation’s secretary-general said.

The Ukrainian head of state even said it is the “time” for Kiev to be invited to join the Atlantic Alliance.

“Now, when the majority of people in NATO countries and the majority of Ukrainians support our country’s entry into the alliance, it is time to make the appropriate decision,” Zelensky said alongside Jens Stoltenberg.
