The number of deaths caused by a fire that occurred in a hospital located in the southwest of Beijing increased to 29, including 26 patients, the second most recent update from the Chinese authorities.
Twelve people were, meanwhile, detained, in the aftermath of the fire, informed the police. Among the detidos is the director of the hospital and officials of the company in charge of the repair works of the establishment.
The update of the number of victims included a nurse, an assistant doctor and a relative of a patient, said Li Zongrong, vice-chief of the Fengtai district.
The fire in the Changfeng private hospital forced the withdrawal of dozens of people. Some of the two patients and staff managed to escape by hand, to improvise a feita corda com lençóis. Because of the fire, it is under investigation.
