Easter numbers approach 2019

There were more than 481,000 visitors who crossed the border posts towards Macau on All Souls’ Day and Easter holidays, between 5 and 10 April.

The record was reached on Friday, the eve of Easter, when 93,253 tourists entered, thus approaching the average daily level recorded in the last pre-pandemic month (93.7 percent), according to the immigration statistics released by the Office of Social Communication. In December 2019, the daily average of visitors was 99,645, with the first case of Covid-19 in Macau being diagnosed on January 22, 2020.

The 2023 record, however, was reached on March 18, when Macau received 96,011 tourists.

On the other hand, during these holidays, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge was by far the most sought after border post, replacing Portas do Cerco, which is traditionally the entry point of choice for visitors from the Mainland. 190,998 tourists entered through the bridge, while 136,076 arrived through Portas do Cerco – a difference of almost 60,000.
