The Russian Ministry of Defense announced this Wednesday that it had launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from a military base in the south of the country, located less than 500 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

“On April 11, 2023, a Strategic Missile Forces combat team successfully launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from a mobile land-based missile system” at Kapustin Yar base in the Astrakhan region, can be read in the communicated.

The ministry indicated that the purpose of the launch was to test advanced combat equipment, confirm the accuracy of the flight path design and the technical solutions used in the development of new missile systems.

In the same note, it was said that “the launch was completed in its entirety”, after the missile, launched near the Caspian Sea, reached the target, at a military training camp in Sary Shagan, Kazakhstan, about three thousand kilometers away. from distance.
