Author of attack in Lisbon is Afghan and has mental disorders

Two people died this Tuesday in a knife attack at Centro Ismaelita, on Avenida Lusíada, in Lisbon. The mortal victims are two women of Portuguese nationality, Mariana Jadaugy, 24, and Farana Sadrudin, 49, who worked at the center to help refugees. One would be the suspect’s English teacher, the other a colleague.

Farana, according to CNN Portugal, was the niece of the diplomatic representative of the Ismaili Imamat in Portugal, Nazim Ahmad, and a member of the Council for Subsidies and Revision and Member of the Council for Conciliation and Arbitration for Portugal in the Ismaili Community, who had worked since December 2021 at FOCUS Foundation – Humanitarian Assistance.

Mariana had a degree in Political Science and International Relations from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and worked as a volunteer at ReFood and FOCUS.

The author of this attack is called Abdul Bashir, born in 1994 and is an Afghan refugee, widowed, who lives in Odivelas with three minor children. He was reportedly hit by the authorities, detained and transported to the Hospital de São José, in Lisbon, where he has already undergone surgery on his hip area, and is now stable, according to SIC Notícias.
