China’s economy started to recover in early 2023

China’s economy stabilized at the end of 2022 and began to recover earlier this year, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said today, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

Li assured that the Chinese economy “achieved reasonable growth” throughout 2022, a year marked by the blockade of entire cities, for weeks or months, as part of the policy of ‘zero cases’ of covid-19, which weighed on economic activity. .

The prime minister, who is due to leave office next month, warned that the country is still facing a “serious external environment” and reiterated that the bases for the recovery of demand at national level “are not yet consolidated”.

Li Keqiang called for “efforts” to implement economic stabilization policies and continue to “expand the recovery”.

The Chinese economy grew by 3% in 2022, the second slowest pace in the last 40 years.

The authorities are expected to release the economic targets for this year at the next annual session of the National People’s Assembly, the country’s highest legislative body, which starts on March 5.
