Portuguese-speaking countries’ exports to Macau rise 46.9%

Merchandise exports from Portuguese-speaking countries to Macau rose 46.9 percent last year compared to 2021, official data released today indicated.

Last year, the value exported by the Portuguese-speaking countries to the Chinese semi-autonomous region was 1.06 billion patacas (121 million euros), according to the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

The amount of goods imported from Macau by the Portuguese-speaking bloc fell 73.4% year-on-year to 2 million patacas (228,000 euros).

In 2022, the value of goods exported rose 4.3% year-on-year to a total of 13.52 billion patacas (1.54 billion euros), while the value of goods imported was 139.8 billion patacas (16.01 billion euros), down 9.1% year-on-year.

Macau’s trade deficit last year stood at 126.29 billion patacas (14.4 billion euros), down 14.62 billion patacas (1.67 billion euros) compared to 2021 (140.9 billion patacas, 16.1 million euros).

The total value of foreign trade in goods in 2022 was 153.3 billion patacas (17.5 billion euros) and down 8.1 percent from 166.8 billion patacas (19.1 billion euros) in 2021, DSEC added.
