The number of tourists arriving in Macau on the first day of the three official holidays celebrating the entry of the Lunar Year of the Rabbit rose by almost 60 percent. Yesterday 50090 tourists arrived, while the day before there were just over 31500.
The number of visitors arriving from Hong Kong stands out, almost 38% of the total, an increase of more than 40% compared to Saturday. Almost 15 thousand entered through the border crossing of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, the other 4286 arrived by sea at the Taipa terminal.
The airport reported more than 4,900 entries.
Despite the increase, the 50 thousand visitors are below the best forecasts of the local tourism director. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes had forecast a daily average of 60 thousand tourists over the three holidays.
Yesterday, the total number of entries and exits at border crossings was 239,454 people.
