The city of Santos, on the coast of the state of São Paulo, is at a standstill because of Pelé’s funeral. The player began to be veiled at dawn on Monday, in Vila Belmiro, the Santos Futebol Clube stadium.
At 10:00 am local time this Tuesday (1:00 pm Lisbon time), the body of the King of Football will be paraded through various regions of the city: from Vila Belmiro it will go to the Memorial Necrópole Ecuménica, which is less than one km from the stadium.
The funeral, however, will pass through another neighborhood, Canal 6, where Dona Celeste, Pelé’s mother, lives, still alive, at the age of 100, completed on the 20th of November.
The city of Santos, due to the huge flow of fans of Edson Arantes do Nascimento expected in the region of the stadium, blocked 12 streets.
