From 1500 euros at Sporting to the crazy salary of 200 million a year in Arabia

Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to play for Saudi Arabia is not alien to the check that accompanied the signing of the contract with Al-Nassr: 500 million euros for two and a half years, that is, until June 2025. Portuguese star collects 200 million euros for each year of bond, thus becoming the footballer with the highest salary ever, surpassing the Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, who in May 2022 renewed with Paris Saint-Germain, earning 72 million euros for each of the three years of the bond, according to a report in the newspaper Le Parisien.

Incidentally, the French striker also added a signing bonus of €180 million to his salary and a loyalty bonus of €70 million. If he fulfills the remaining two years of the contract, he will still receive 80 million in 2024 and 90 million in 2025, with Paris Saint-Germain having a total charge of 636 million euros if all targets are met.

Al-Nassr is the fifth club in Cristiano Ronaldo’s career, after Sporting (2002-03), Manchester United (2003 to 2009 and 2021 to 2022), Real Madrid (2009 to 2018) and Juventus (2018 to 2021). From the 1500 euros a month he earned at Alvalade in 2003, to the annual salary of 70 million (excluding prizes and image rights) that he will have at the Saudi club, he has a career filled with collective titles (33, including five Champions) and individual titles ( 45, including five Ballon d’Or/The Best).

The precocious talent took him out of Sporting even before he established himself in the main team and signed a professional contract. He was a junior and was paid the base salary of a youth player at the time. The move to Old Trafford was made in exchange for a salary of €150,000 a month, a figure that Manchester United increased to €380,000 in the second year. From then on, it was always growing at a sporting level, so the performance on the field started to be counted in millions. He received 9.1 million per season when he left the Red Devils in 2009 to go to Real Madrid, where he started to earn 21 million per season.
