A Mainland athlete who took part in the Macau half marathon on Sunday tested positive in a test in Zhuhai before entering Macau, but ended up running the race.
The news was first disclosed by TDM’s Chinese-language radio station which also mentioned that the female athlete entered Macau from neighbouring Guangdong province on Saturday, December 3.
The National Health Commission informed local authorities on Sunday, December 4, that a mixed sample taken at the nucleic acid testing station in Zhuhai tested positive. The infection was confirmed in a single sample test.
The woman is symptomatic, with headaches, fatigue and other discomforts, according to a press release from the local health authorities.
The Health Bureau has already identified the places frequented: she had lunch at the Lee Garden Restaurant at the Venetian Hotel on December 3; in the afternoon she was at the Free Shop at that hotel unit, and in the evening, she had dinner at the restaurant, also at the Venetian.
On Sunday, starting at 6:00 a.m., he was part of the group of athletes who ran the half-marathon. It is not yet known whether this case will require the testing of those who took part in the race.
