An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 on the Richter scale shook, this Monday, Cianjur, on the island of Java, Indonesia, according to the United States Geological Survey. At least 20 people died and 300 were injured in the aftermath of the earthquake, and there are, according to local authorities, buildings that have collapsed.
“According to the information I have at the moment, almost 20 people have died and at least 300 are being treated. Most have broken bones after being trapped in the rubble of buildings,” Herman Suherman, head of Cianjur municipal administration, told Metro TV.
The province of West Java, with almost 50 million inhabitants, is the most populous in Indonesia.
