North Korea fires 100 artillery rounds towards maritime “buffer zone”

North Korea fired around 100 artillery rounds into a maritime “buffer zone” on Wednesday, the South Korean army announced.

The firing came hours after Pyongyang launched several missiles, one of which landed in the high seas near South Korean territorial waters.

“North Korea fired about 100 artillery shots from Kosong”, the North Korean town of Kangwon (south), towards the “buffer zone” north of the demarcation line and ‘de facto’ maritime boundary between the two neighbors of the Korean peninsula, indicated the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea.

Seoul and Washington are currently conducting the largest joint air exercise ever, dubbed “Storm Watchful”, involving hundreds of warplanes from both armies.
