Qatar regrets ‘unprecedented’ criticism of the country ahead of the 2022 World Cup

Qatar faces an “unprecedented campaign” of criticism during preparations for the World Cup, which will start in 26 days, Emir Tamim bin Hamad al Thani said on Tuesday.

The conservative and energy-rich country spent millions of dollars to organize the first World Cup in an Arab country, but it faces a lot of criticism related to human rights.

In an unusual public display of irritation, Emir Tamim bin Hamad al Thani said that Qatar is a victim of “inventions and double standards”, implying that there are ulterior motives behind the criticism.
