Xinjiang: Islamic countries don’t line up with west’s criticism

Western observers were surprised last Tuesday that no Muslim-majority country on the UN Human Rights Council had made any mention of the report on the Uighurs in Xinjiang. UK, US and European Union have expressed their concern about this

The Chinese delegation – which is one of the current 47 members of the United Nations Human Rights Council – reiterated criticism of the report, claiming that it was based on “false information and wrong conclusions”.

“It is yet another example of how human rights instruments are used by Western countries,” said the Chinese delegation, which called it “unacceptable” that the High Commissioner led by Bachelet until 31 August had sought, on the one hand, cooperation with Beijing and, on the other hand, the “deliberate confrontation”.
