More work for fewer members of the royal family is just one of the reasons that led Charles III to give the titles of princes to his children to Harry and Meghan, even after the Dukes had abandoned their royal duties. But there is more. What the experts say
The first speech of the new British monarch, on Friday, September 9, did not forget his son Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle. “I would also like to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives across the ocean,” said Carlos III in the emotional nine-minute message.
Even remembering the work they have been developing on the other side of the Atlantic and without royal functions since January 2020 – by decision of the Dukes of Sussex -, Charles III seems to want to gather his family around him. In fact, he made a point of naming Meghan and Harry’s children: Princes Archie and Lillibet. “It might not have done it (since the Dukes left the royal family), but it did”, recalls former ambassador and specialist in European royal families José Bouza Serrano.
Why, then, did Charles III make this decision? The specialist mentions three reasons to Delas.pt. “Carlos III needs his children and grandchildren, the royal family will be greatly reduced. Remember that all the queen’s cousins become the king’s family, but not the royal family. And all the elements count for official moments and even for appearing on the balcony of Buckingham”, anticipates Bouza Serrano.
