Isabel II: tears and flowers did not inhibit the echo of protests

Covered in the royal pattern of the United Kingdom, with a wreath of white flowers perched, Elizabeth II’s oak coffin left Balmoral and traveled the east coast of Scotland on a 280 kilometer journey, passing through some of the monarch’s most cherished places. But the thousands of tributes and tributes paid by the crowds that piled up, between tears and flowers, in the streets during the six-hour journey to say goodbye to Isabel II were not unanimous. Dissonant opinions were heard, raising the question of whether or not Charles III will be able to appease tempers.

In Aberdeen, while several people shouted cheers to the new king, there were those who voiced their displeasure. The BBC reports hooting in the Scottish city, as the document that made Charles’ ascension to the throne was being read. In Cardiff, a group of anti-monarchists protested. One of the posters read: “Not our king. He is the colonial subjugation of the Welsh people.”

The procession ended at 4.20 pm, when the monarch’s body arrived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, in Edinburgh. On Monday afternoon, the queen’s coffin will proceed in procession to St Giles’ Cathedral, accompanied by the king and members of the royal family. Only tomorrow he will fly to London, where he will stay at Buckingham Palace.
