Taiwan signals determination to fend off Chinese attack

During a dialogue with researchers from the think tank (“Think Tank”) Hoover Institution, at Stanford University, in the United States, Tsai Ing-wen referred to the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis in 1958, when the Chinese Army executed prolonged bombing raids on Taiwan’s Kinmen and Matsu islands.

Tsai said the military and civilians then worked together to protect Taiwan.

“This battle to protect our homeland has shown the world that no threat can shake the Taiwanese people’s determination to defend their nation,” he said.

“We will also show the world that the people of Taiwan have the determination and confidence to safeguard peace, security, freedom and prosperity,” he added.

The visits of politicians from the United States and Japan to the territory are increasingly frequent.
