Portuguese economy is one of the most backwards to recover from the pandemic

The blazing growth of the first quarters of this year is not enough for Portugal to stand out at European level in the recovery from the effects of the pandemic.

According to calculations by Dinheiro Vivo (DV) based on indicators of real gross domestic product (GDP) (at constant prices), released yesterday by Eurostat, the country recorded, in the second quarter of this year, the fifth worst performance in Europe compared to at the end of 2019, when growth rates of 21 of the 27 countries of the European Union (EU) are already established.

Spain, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany are in the red because they have yet to recover from the devastating effects of the pandemic (compared to the level of GDP in the last quarter of 2019), a process that was complicated by Russia’s war against Ukraine.
