Eurozone registers trade deficit of 24.6 billion euros in June

In June, the euro zone recorded a deficit of 24.6 billion euros in the trade balance of goods, while in the European Union as a whole the deficit reached 34 billion euros, Eurostat reports this Tuesday.

According to the European Union (EU) statistical service, the deficit recorded in June this year in the international trade of goods from the single currency space contrasts with the surplus of 17.2 billion euros in the same month of 2021, and the trade deficit for the EU as a whole compares with a surplus of €14 billion a year earlier.

According to preliminary data from Eurostat, exports of goods from the euro zone to the rest of the world reached 252.2 billion euros in June, a year-on-year increase of 20.1% (in June 2020 they had been 210 billion euros). euros), but imports grew even more sharply, from 192.9 billion to 276.8 billion euros, which corresponds to an increase of 43.5% year-on-year.

The official statistics office points out that almost all Member States, with the exception of Cyprus and Denmark, recorded strong increases in extra-EU exports year-on-year, with Slovenia (109.4%) and Greece (75.6%) leading the way in main climbs.

However, extra-EU imports also had a similar evolution, with all Member States, with the exception of Latvia and Luxembourg, registering year-on-year increases, the highest of which in Cyprus (130.1%) and Greece (100.4% ).
