Kim Jong-Un declares victory in the fight against the Covid-19 health crisis

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared victory on Wednesday in the fight against the health crisis caused in his country by Covid-19.

“I solemnly declare victory in the maximum emergency anti-epidemic campaign to exterminate the new coronavirus that had made inroads on our territory and protect the life and health of the people,” the North Korean leader said in statements reported by the KCNA news agency.

For this reason, the North Korean government decided to reduce the quarantine level from “maximum emergency” to more flexible isolation, according to the South Korean agency Yonhap.

“Our party and government have assessed the current quarantine situation and (…) have come to the conclusion that the virulent epidemic crisis that has been created in the country has been completely resolved,” Kim said in his speech to the Central Committee of the Communist Party.

The declaration of victory against covid-19 is interpreted as an apparent triumph against South Korea, as Pyongyang accuses Seoul of having introduced the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the covid-19 disease, from the border. between the two countries.

Kim Yo Jong, the North Korean leader’s younger sister, said the national crisis was “clearly caused by the anti-republican madness of confronting the enemies who are trying to crush our country by igniting the global health crisis,” the statement said. Yonhap.

“The fact that the area near the front line was the initial source of the outbreak made us feel deeply concerned and suspicious of South Korea,” she added during her speech to the committee, stating that “a strong response” must be taken. in retaliation.

“If the enemy continues to do dangerous things that could introduce viruses into our republic, we will respond by eradicating not only the virus but also the South Korean authorities,” Kim added.

During the peak of the Covid-19 wave in the country in May, up to 200,000 cases were reported in a single day.

Since the end of July, however, there have been successive zero cases, prompting Pyongyang to ease isolation measures.
