“Injuries and difficult off-field life”. Palmeiras explains Veron’s transfer to FC Porto

Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, explained, this Wednesday, the reasons that led the Brazilian club to negotiate Veron’s departure to F. C. Porto.

Veron was considered one of the great promises of Palmeiras – the coach, Abel Ferreira, even argued that the Brazilian extreme should not be transferred for less than Neymar when he signed for Barcelona, 50 million euros – and the Brazilian club ended up being criticized for transferring the player and for a value below that which is the market value of the Brazilian winger.

When asked about the criticism, Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, explained that the 19-year-old player was transferred for 10.25 million euros, with the Brazilian club reserving 10 percent of the pass, and that she never wanted to harm the “verdão”.

“If he could have been sold for more, you can be absolutely sure that he would be sold. I would never harm a Palmeiras asset. Veron was sold for his value today. What matters is today, I win championships today, I sell today. If in the past he was worth more, he wasn’t for sale. His value is this, today. One or two years from now, it might be another. We have to evaluate the current market” said the leader, to journalists at the headquarters of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), admitting that injuries were one of the reasons for the footballer’s loss of market value.
