Video of the event in Perinton, posted on the social network Twitter, shows a man taking the stage and grabbing Lee Zeldin’s arm, before they both fall to the ground, with several campaign members intervening.
The attacker was detained and the congressman continued his speech.
On the social network Twitter, Lee Zeldin said he was “grateful” for being able to grab the striker’s wrist in time to prevent him from hitting him in the neck and thanked those who “at the scene quickly jumped” onto the stage and stopped him.
