The Brazilian Federal Police on Monday detained a Spaniard who was trying to leave the country with seven kilos of cocaine at the international airport of Galeao in Rio de Janeiro, according to official sources.
The 26-year-old Spaniard, who intended to board a flight to Paris with a stopover in Lisbon, had hidden the drugs in several coffee packets in his luggage and was discovered by customs agents during a routine inspection at the air terminal.
The detainee was sent to the Federal Police Superintendence in Rio de Janeiro and will have to answer for the crime of international drug trafficking, for which he can be sentenced up to 15 years in prison.
