China to require monkey pox testing for travelers arriving from abroad

Local health authorities will require testing especially for those whose travel history includes countries with cases of this disease within 21 days prior to entering the Asian country.

China will require tests for the ‘monkeypox’ disease, in addition to those required for Covid-19, for all travelers arriving in the country, the official People’s Daily newspaper reported Saturday. China’s Health Commission has required several local authorities to test for ‘monkeypox’ among arrivals from abroad, especially those whose travel history includes countries with cases of this disease in the 21 days prior to entering the Asian country, it indicated.

People with symptoms, such as rashes, should also be “closely monitored” and any suspected cases should be reported to prevention authorities for transfer to “designated medical institutions.”

Anyone showing those symptoms should be tested to rule out other diseases such as smallpox, rubella or measles. According to the newspaper, the Commission has also asked anyone who has been in contact with those infected with monkeypox to inform the authorities, even if they do not show any symptoms.
