Suicide of ex-employee prompts investigation at Chelsea

According to an article published in the New York Times, Chelsea have opened an investigation into allegations of bullying within the club that will be conducted by an external team. At stake is an alleged “toxic work culture” existing in one of the blues departments that may have led to the suicide of Richard Bignell, a former employee who will have gone into despair after being fired from Chelsea.

The case caught the attention of Todd Boehly, the new owner, and he was keen to rest all the club’s workers: “We believe in an environment and a work culture that empowers employees and ensures they feel safe, included and valued. Steps were taken by the new owners to instigate an environment compatible with our values.”
