Displaced people from Cabo Delgado advance south and arrive in Sofala

Displaced people due to armed violence in Cabo Delgado are moving further south and are already receiving land in Sofala, central Mozambique, alongside those trying to rebuild life after Cyclone Idai in 2019, authorities announced today.

Authorities in Sofala province, central Mozambique, are distributing land to accommodate displaced families due to armed violence in Cabo Delgado, in what is the official record of the southernmost arrival of the refugee wave.

“The [land distribution] process has already been completed. People already have plots, we have already set up temporary tents and shelters there. Each family is in their own space, ”Teixeira Almeida, delegate of the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGC) in Sofala, Teixeira Almeida.

There are a total of 36 families, with 180 people, who were resettled in Savane, in the Dondo district.
