Angola recorded 47 mine accidents and 130 victims in a year and a half

Angop

Forty-seven accidents with mines and other explosive devices were recorded in the country, from January 2019 to June 2020, according to government data.

In a press release, the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women Promotion (MASFAMU) indicates that accidents caused 130 victims, of which 36 were killed and 94 were injured.

Without pointing to comparative data in relation to the period from January 2018 to June 2019, that ministerial department said it was concerned with the “increase in accidents with mines and explosive devices involving, above all, children”.

According to MASFAMU, the ignorance of explosive devices and the practice of collecting metals by the population, for sale, are pointed out as the main causes of accidents that have occurred recently.

It denounces the practice of citizens who collect metals and then hammer, in an attempt to find mercury inside the explosive.
