Armed man threatens police in Avignon. It’s the third attack on France this morning

The attacker was shot dead by security forces. Case is already being investigated.

A gunman tried to attack several people this morning in the city of Avignon, the local media said. The attacker reportedly shouted “Allah is great”, threatened civilians on the street and the police, who responded by opening fire on the attacker.

The man could not resist his injuries and died on the spot.

According to the French-speaking radio Europe 1, the attack took place around 11:15 am (10:15 am in Lisbon), just two hours after another attack in the city of Nice, which killed three people. Also this morning, the French consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was the target of a knife attack, which wounded one.
