France opens persecution of Islamic movements after beheading of teacher

A vast police operation against Islamic movements in France is underway after the beheading on Friday of a history professor who was the victim of a fatwa (Islamic decree) for showing his students caricatures of Muhammad

The targets of the operation are “dozens of individuals who do not necessarily have a connection to the investigation”, but to whom the government “obviously wants to send a message”. “The enemies of the Republic will not be given a single minute of rest,” Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin told Europa 1 radio.

According to a source close to the case, these are suspects who already have a record in the secret services for their radical and hate messages on social networks. Since the beheading of Samuel Paty, who taught History and Geography at a high school in Conflans Sainte-Honorine, west of Paris, “more than 80 investigations” have been opened against “all those who, in an apologetic way, said in a another that this teacher had deserved (the murder), ”said Darmanin, who cited several arrests.
