The Portuguese João Almeida achieved the sixth best record in the 34.1 km time trial, won by Filippo Ganna, but, more importantly, it was the time he won to the most direct rivals in the fight for the general.
The Deceuninck-Quick Step cyclist spent 16 seconds less in the “chrono” than the runner-up, Wilco Kelderman, who is now 56 seconds away from the Portuguese’s pink jersey.
