“One day, Portugal will not remain separated from high speed”

Prime Minister of Portugal opens the door to high-performance lines between Portugal and Spain, in the wake of the Iberian Summit. But only after the completion of the works scheduled for the end of 2023.

Gone are the days of the Iberian summits that defined high-speed lines, as happened in 2003 in Figueira da Foz. But this Saturday, in Guarda, the Prime Minister opened the door to the discussion on high-performance lines between Portugal and Spain. However, the debate on this matter should only start after the conclusion, at the end of 2023, of the works of the investment program Ferrovia 2020.

“Certainly, one day, Portugal will not continue to be separated from the Iberian high-speed network. We will talk about this in due time, taking into account that it is not an end-to-end connection but from country to country. We have to find a connection that can integrate the whole of Portugal and contribute positively to the strengthening of territorial cohesion ”, said the Prime Minister at the press conference after the summit.
